Met Éireann is predicting heavy showers, thunderstorms, and hail ahead of the first day of May on Wednesday.
According to the forecaster, showers will be heavy on Tuesday, with “thunderstorms and hail likely” particularly across parts of the Midlands and West. Highest temperatures of 10C to 13C are expected.
Overnight, scattered showers will become confined to the south and west, some will still be heavy with a chance of isolated thunderstorms again. A patchy mist may form, and temperatures are expected to drop as low as 1C to 5C.
Wednesday, the first day of the summer, will be a “drier day overall with sunny spells and scattered showers”. Cloud will thicken in the east towards evening, but temperatures could still climb as high as 16C.
On Thursday it will be mostly cloudy with outbreaks of “potentially heavy” rain. Spot flooding may be possible in parts of the Midlands, South and East.
Temperatures on Thursday will range from 11C to 15C.
Looking ahead to the May bank holiday weekend, Friday will see “brighter and drier intervals across the south with some sunshine” and temperatures could hit up to 17C.
Current indications suggest that Saturday will see “a good deal of cloud overall” with patchy rain and drizzle.
Further rain, again potentially heavy, looks set to move up from the south later in the day.
For the rest of the long weekend, Met Éireann say there is “more uncertainty than usual” but “unsettled conditions seem likely to persist” with rain or showers at times.
