I have said since the end of last year that there was a possibility to sign a peace treaty, political will was needed on the part of Azerbaijan. Speaker Alen Simonyan of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia told this to reporters at the NA Monday.

"We hope that this process which is taking place is another impulse that this process should be completed very quickly because the Armenian side will go in that direction and will carry out work all the time," he said.

To the remark that Azerbaijani president Aliyev stated that the peace treaty contains entirely their approach, Simonyan said: "Completely international norms have been put [in that peace treaty], which are also our approaches. In all the issues where there are disagreements, the Armenian side rejects them. The proof of this is that the treaty is going back and forth [between the two parties] for the umpteenth time. Why does it go back and forth? Because they send their proposals, and we say, ‘No. And these are our proposals’. That's why the process is being delayed."

And to the question as to what the main disagreement between the two parties is, the Armenian NA speaker responded: "There is no fundamental disagreement. We go by points one by one; that is, we come, reach these points, we discuss this, it is done on the basis of international principles and one by one...

It is very important not to leave room for double interpretation. Look, some countries and some politicians tried to do such bargaining in connection with the November 9 [2020] statement. And that's a good lesson for all of us that all the wording should be comprehensible by both sides as to what that wording is about, so that one does not say, ‘You told me something here,’ the other say, ‘You promised me something.’"
