Vote now for the Rockford Register Star Student of the Week for May 6-10

It's time to vote for the Rockford Register Star Student of the Week.

This week's finalists includes a senior who plans to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy, a trilingual student who plans to major in neuroscience in college, a freshman who makes time for her peers and a senior class president.

We publish a list of Student of the Week finalists every Monday at rrstar.com and every Tuesday in the Rockford Register Star. Readers can vote online as many times as they wish until 11 a.m. Thursday.

The winner of the online poll is announced at rrstar.com every Friday and in print Sunday in the Rockford Register Star.

Here are this week's finalists.

Mason Caltagerone, Boylan

Mason Caltagerone

Mason Caltagerone is a senior at Boylan Catholic High School. Following graduation, plans to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy. Over his four years at Boylan, Caltagerone participated in track, basketball, and football, serving as team captain. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Natural Helpers and a student ambassador.

Alejandra Fonseca, Keith

Alejandra Fonseca

Alejandra Fonseca, a senior at Keith Country Day School, volunteers at Summerfield Zoo, Burpee Museum, Midway Village and participates in the school's Interact Club. Fonseca also is trilingual. She speaks English, Spanish and is at the top of her AP French class. She is a member of the National Honors Society, International Club, and Model United Nations Team representing Greece in the Social Humanitarian and Cultural committee this year. She will attend the University of Miami in the fall where she plans to major in neuroscience.

Veronica Marquez-Mejia, East

Veronica Marquez-Mejia

Veronica Marquez-Mejia is a freshman at East High School. According to her global studies teacher, Marquez-Mejia "always comes to class with a goofy, fun energy that makes class so enjoyable to be in. She is always striving to do better, and I see her time and time again being there for her friends, supporting and lifting them up. She participates in the E-Rab community by being involved in volleyball and soccer. She manages her time and responsibilities well. She maintains good grades and is always asking what she can do to make them even better."

Carrington Rae Autumn Weatherly, Auburn

Carrington Rae Autumn Weatherly

Carrington Rae Autumn Weatherly is senior class president at Auburn High School. She is captain of the varsity track team and was the boys football manager. Weatherly also participated in girls basketball, cross country, and played running back and safety on the inaugural girls flag football team. She is an active member of the Kiwanis Key Club and National Honors Society. Outside of school, Weatherly serves as a member of the Rockford Mayor’s Youth Leadership Council.  She is a charter member of the Forest City Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., where she has served her teen chapter as president. After high school, Carrington will attend Howard University where she will pursue a degree in psychology.
